StylHive Privacy Policy

Translation. In the event of any discrepancy, only the French version is legally binding.

Version 2026-10-27 — last updated on 27 October 2026.

StylHive is an apiary management application. This page explains what personal data it processes, why, with whom, for how long, and how you can exercise your rights. It is available without an account.

The essentials: your operation’s data is hosted in Paris; the publisher does not consult it without your agreement, except in the event of a technical incident or a legal obligation; it is neither sold nor used for advertising; you can export it and delete it whenever you wish.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Controller: the publisher of StylHive, a private individual who publishes StylHive on a non-professional basis. For any question about your data or to exercise your rights: stylhive.support@proton.me.

Two situations must be distinguished:

2. Data protection officer

The publisher has not appointed a data protection officer: it is not required to do so, as its activity consists neither of regular and systematic monitoring on a large scale nor of processing special categories of data. For any question about your data, write to stylhive.support@proton.me.

3. Why we process your data, and on what basis

Retaining the data of the livestock register (registre d’élevage) is not a legal obligation of the publisher: the obligation to keep this register and to retain it for five years lies with the beekeeper. The publisher retains this data in order to provide you with the tool, and erases it if you ask, after offering you the export.

4. What data

Your phone’s location is used to recognise the apiary you are standing in front of: it is read while the application is open, never in the background, and it is neither stored nor transmitted — only the coordinates of an apiary that you choose to record are.

The voice you dictate into an inspection note (the “Dictate” button, in the Android application) is transcribed by your phone’s speech recognition service — on most phones, Google’s, which processes it on the device or on its servers according to its own rules and the phone’s settings. StylHive never receives the sound: your voice is neither sent to StylHive nor kept by it. Only the text of the note, which you read over and correct before adding it, is saved, just like a note typed on the keyboard. Access to the microphone is only requested the first time you tap “Dictate”; you can refuse it, or withdraw it at any time in the phone’s settings, and type instead. The web version does not offer dictation.

5. Data of people who do not use StylHive

The livestock register requires the name and status of the animal health officer or vet who carries out an inspection, the name of the person who noticed an anomaly and, for each medicine, the vet who prescribed it, if any, and the supplier (name and address), as well as the origin of any feed; an apiary’s record may also include the name of the landowner. These people do not use StylHive: we limit ourselves to their name, their status and, for a supplier, its address, entered by the beekeeper in order to keep their register. They have the same rights as users; these rights are exercised with the beekeeper concerned, who is the controller of this data, and to whom we forward any request we receive.

6. Who sees your data

Who can technically access your data. As with any hosted service, the publisher, as administrator, has technical access to the database and the backups. It undertakes not to consult the data of an operation except: where its owner grants access to support from within the application (see above); to the extent strictly necessary to restore the service, or to restore or erase data; or at the request of a legally authorised authority. The same duty of confidentiality applies to anyone who assists the publisher.

Your data is never sold, transferred or used for advertising.

7. Processors, and data processed outside the European Union

In other words: your operation data is hosted in France; technical data relating to login, delivery, measurement and diagnostics may be processed outside the European Union. These transfers, from Google Ireland Limited to Google LLC, rely both on the standard contractual clauses adopted by the European Commission and on Google LLC’s certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. The list of Google’s sub-processors for Firebase is published by Google: firebase.google.com/terms/subprocessors.

Audience measurement and crash reports only work in the Android app, and only if you accept them: they are switched off when the app starts, and it only switches them on once you have given your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in “My account”. They never use the advertising ID. The web version uses neither.

8. How long

In all honesty: after your account is deleted, your data may remain for up to six months in our encrypted backups, where it is neither consulted nor used, and which are destroyed on rotation.

The livestock register must be kept for five years by the beekeeper: remember to export it before deleting your account.

9. Your rights

You have the following rights, free of charge:

Withdrawal of consent: at any time, from “My account”, as easily as you gave it. Collection stops immediately; data already collected is deleted at the end of its retention period, and you may ask us to erase it sooner.

After death: you may set out instructions regarding what happens to your data after your death, and send them to us at the same address.

We reply within one month, a period that may be extended by two months for a complex request, in which case we explain why. To protect your account, requests should be made from within the application where possible, or otherwise from the registered email address, and from that address only.

If you are a member of someone else’s operation, requests concerning that operation’s data should be addressed to its owner; we help them to respond. You can always leave an operation and delete your own account; your entries then remain attributed to you there, for the purposes of the livestock register, as stated when you joined.

You may lodge a complaint with the CNIL (the French supervisory authority): www.cnil.fr/fr/plaintes. You may also refer the matter to the data protection authority of the country in which you reside — in Belgium, the Belgian Data Protection Authority (APD/GBA): www.autoriteprotectiondonnees.be; in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (the Italian Data Protection Authority): www.garanteprivacy.it; in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD) (the Spanish Data Protection Agency): www.aepd.es; in Germany, the data protection authority of your Land, listed by the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI): www.bfdi.bund.de; in the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP) (the Dutch data protection authority): autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.

10. Mandatory or optional data

Your email address and password are mandatory: without them, there is no account. Everything else is optional: the display name, the business data, the coordinates of apiaries — without which automatic apiary recognition and the register are simply less complete. Refusing audience measurement or crash reports does not deprive you of any feature. Dictation is optional: without it, you type the note on the keyboard.

11. No automated decision-making

StylHive makes no automated decisions about you and carries out no profiling. Seasonal reminders are calculated from your own settings; they are simply reminders.

12. Data stored on your phone

In order to work without a network connection, StylHive keeps a copy of your data on the device, unencrypted, and sends it to the server as soon as the connection returns. We recommend that you lock the screen of your phone. Signing out erases this copy, once all entries have been sent — the application refuses to sign out while an entry is still waiting.

Demo mode runs entirely on the device: it creates no account and sends nothing; “Leave and erase” removes its data.

On the web, the application sets no advertising or audience measurement trackers; it uses only the storage that is strictly necessary for it to work (session, display settings, entries waiting to be sent), which does not require consent.

13. Security

Encrypted exchanges; data encrypted at rest with the hosting provider; access rules enforced by the server, which isolate each operation and each role; apiary locations stored separately; encrypted backups.

In the event of a personal data breach: for your account data, we notify the CNIL within 72 hours where the breach presents a risk, and inform you directly if that risk is high — a leak of apiary locations is considered to be. For the data of an operation, we inform its owner within 48 hours, so that they can fulfil their own obligations, and help them to inform the data subjects.

14. Changes

This policy may change, in particular if a new service is used. The date of the latest update appears at the top. Any significant change will be brought to your attention in the application; if it affects processing based on your consent, your agreement will be requested again.
